About Us
A Legacy of Compassionate Service in Utica
Our story begins in 1911 when Carmine Scala founded a funeral home that would become a cornerstone of community support in the Utica area. For over a century, three generations of the Scala family have dedicated themselves to serving local families during their most difficult moments. In 1984, the business expanded and became the Scala & Roefaro Funeral Home Inc., with David R. Roefaro taking leadership as President. Under his leadership, Scala & Roefaro Funeral Home established itself as one of the area's premiere funeral service providers, broadening its reach throughout the region and enhancing its offerings to meet the community's evolving needs.
A significant milestone in our history occurred in 2025 when we proudly welcomed Stephen S. Karboski, Jr. to our leadership team. This addition marked another important expansion, transforming our business to become
Scala, Roefaro & Karboski Funeral Home. This change not only reflects our continued growth but also our deep understanding and compassion for the unique needs of the greater Utica community and surrounding areas.
Today, the funeral home remains a family-owned business, with daily operations carefully managed by David Roefaro, his family, and now Stephen Karboski. Nestled in a serene section of Southeast Utica, our location adjacent to the beautiful Proctor Park at 1122 Culver Avenue provides a peaceful setting for remembering and honoring loved ones.
