Mrs. Santa “Sylvia” Papandrea Pepe, age 77, passed away on Wednesday February 28, 2018 at St. Luke’s Hospital with her loving family by her side.
She was born in Brooklyn, NY on November 3, 1940 a daughter of the late Vincenzo and Teresa Loccisano Papandrea and was educated in Brooklyn Schools and graduated locally from Utica Free Academy. On July 25, 1970 she was married to Joseph Pepe in Our Lady of Lourdes Church, a blessed union of 47 years. Sylvia along with her husband Joe, owned and operated Bergers Cleaners for many years and presently Trenton City Dry Cleaners in North Utica.
Sylvia was the soul of her family. The needs of her family always came far above her own. She loved fully, unconditionally and respectfully. And she was loved in return. She will be uncontrollably missed.
Surviving are her beloved husband Joe; two sons and a daughter-in-law Rocco and Scarlett Pepe and their daughter Isabella of Oriskany and Vincent Pepe; one brother Joseph Papandrea of Utica; one sister and brother-in-law Mary (Papandrea) Carbone and husband Joseph of Whitesboro; her dear nieces and nephews Dr. Lora Papandrea and husband Tom Norton, Vincent and Heather Papandrea and Elisabeth-Anne Carbone; a special cousin Millie Fausto and her dear friends Sylvia and Frank Bonacci and many in-laws and cousins in NY. She was predeceased by her infant son Anthony and her sister-in-law Marilyn Papandrea.
Visitation will be held on Sunday (today) from 2-5 pm at the Scala & Roefaro Funeral Home Inc 1122 Culver Ave. Utica. Her Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday morning at 9:00 AM in Our Lady of Lourdes Church. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. The family extends a special Thank You to the entire staff of the ICU at St. Lukes Hospital for their care and compassion.
