Angela (Scalise) Stoio, age 97, went home to the Lord on Wednesday, May 7, 2025 in the comfort of her home. She was born in Utica on February 11, 1928, daughter of the late Anthony and Frances Scalise, and was a graduate of T.R.Proctor High School.
On September 19, 1959, Angela married Carl Stoio. They were a perfect couple, devoted to each other and to their family. They found great happiness in their 51 blessed years of marriage. In the year 2000, they moved to Rochester, NY to be in close proximity to their daughters and granddaughters, where Angela was able to lovingly watch her granddaughters grow. Carl passed away on August 27, 2011.
Sharing happiness came naturally for Angela. She was a remarkable wife and mother who always held her family in higher esteem than herself. She took great pride in her home and was happiest when she was surrounded by her loved ones. She loved cooking for her family and friends, especially on Sundays and holidays. Her door was always open. People often gravitated toward her kind heart, logical mind, and her sincere ways. Angela put much vim and vigor in to all her creative endeavors. One of her most loved traditions was baking Christmas cookies with her best friend, Rosemond Kirkland. We all enjoyed them for months afterward!
Angela excelled at her work. She was employed as a Legal Administrative Assistant for William Ribyat, Esq. for 18 years, and that helped to shape her into the fair-minded humanitarian that she was. She was an avid reader as well, and liked to keep abreast of current news events.
Angela loved God and her church. She was a member of St. Mary of Mount Carmel Church in her earlier years and then St. Anne’s Parish in Whitesboro, where they faithfully attended with their daughters. The greatest legacy that Angela leaves her daughters and granddaughters is her faith in God. She made sure they know God and she gave them confidence in the absolute truth of His unchanging Word.
She is survived by her beloved daughters, Teresa Johnson and Frances Stoio, of Webster, NY; her cherished granddaughters Lindsay Johnson and Natalie and husband Kyle LaVallee. She also leaves her adored nieces and nephews Patricia Scalise, Tony Scalise, Ralph and Carol Scalise and many other nieces, nephews and friends.
Angela was predeceased by her husband, Carl Stoio, her parents, Anthony and Frances (Percia) Scalise, her son-in-law Donald Johnson and her siblings: Joseph (Rita) and Rudy (Lori) Scalise, and sister-in-law Birgit Scalise.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the Palliative Care medical staff at Rochester Regional Hospital, Dr. Brenda Baratta and Dr. Luis Postigo and the many devoted home health care aides, both private and through Maxim Healthcare who brought Angela much comfort and compassion throughout her journey with Alzheimer’s Disease. They helped make it possible to give Angela the best care in her home.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend her Mass of Christian Burial on Friday, May 16, 2025 at 12 Noon at St. Mary Mt. Carmel/Blessed Sacrament Church, Utica. The family will greet all visitors at the conclusion of Mass in church. Private interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Angela may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association of Rochester, NY. Envelopes will be available at the Mass.
