Anthony S. Colicci

Mr. Anthony S. Colicci, age 91, of Utica, passed away on Saturday June 14, 2014, with his loving family by his side.

He was born December 3, 1922, in Utica, a son of the late Angelo and Frances Palazzo Colicci, and was educated in local schools. On July 15, 1944, in St. Mary of Mt.CarmelChurch, he married the love of his life Irma Palazzo, a truly loving union of 58 years, until her passing on May 4, 2003.

Anthony was a proud veteran of WWII serving in the US Army Air Core.

He was a dedicated Firefighter for the Utica Fire Department, retiring in 1984, with more than 27 years of service. In addition to being a firefighter he was a very talented self-employed union carpenter, who was well recognized for his quality workmanship. In his later years he enjoyed working part time maintaining voting machines for the Utica Election Board. Anthony was a devoted and active lifelong parishioner and usher at St. Anthony of PaduaChurch, a founding charter member of the Knights of St. John Commandary #385, Noble Degree; past member of the St. Anthony Holy Name Society and St. Anthony parish building council; member of the Utica Police and Fire Retiree's of NY Inc. and Engine 11. He was Boy Scout Master of Troop 66 where he gained a lasting respect from many East Utica young men.

Anthony was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and brother-in-law. He affectionately was referred to as "Grandpa Dawn" and "Uncle Dawn". He enjoyed his carpentry projects, family gatherings and socializing with friends. Occasionally he enjoyed playing casino slot machines and horse racing. He truly enjoyed his Friday night dinners with his brothers and sisters-in-law and then endulging in their ritual game of Domino's. Anthony was an exceptional gentleman, a loving and caring man who was well respected and loved by many.

Surviving are two devoted sons and daughters-in-law, Ronald and Michele Colicci of Utica and Robert and Judy Colicci of Ashburn, VA; his cherished grandchildren Ronald Colicci, Denise and Christopher Fry, Andrea and Daniel Kane and Bobby Colicci and fiancAC.e Becky; his beloved great-grandchildren Matthew Hajdasz, Thomas, Joseph and Marco Colicci, Thomas and John Kane; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Joseph Colicci and Ralph and Jacquelyn Colicci, all of Utica; his in-laws, Nedia and Albert DeCuffa of CA, and Patricia Palazzo of FL.; and several loving nieces and nephews, especially Lorraine, who kept in constant touch with Anthony. He also leaves his special friends Tom and Josephine Graziano. He was predeceased by one brother William Colicci, his in-laws Carmella and John LaValla, Mary and Joe Scalise, Jack Palazzo and Rose Colicci.

His funeral will be held on Wednesday at 9:00 a.m. from The Scala & Roefaro Funeral Home, Inc. 1122 Culver Ave., and at 10:00 a.m. in St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Church, (do to construction at St. Anthony Church) where his Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated, with Military Honors. Private entombment will be in Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum.

Visiting hours will be Tuesday from 5-8 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations in his name may be made to St. Anthony/St. Agnes Church. The Knights of St. John will assemble on Tuesday evening at 7:00 pm at the funeral home.
