Carol A. (Dziok) Centra

Carol A. Centra (Dziok), age 84, of Utica, passed away on Saturday, August 29, 2026, after a sudden and brief illness, in the comfort of her home with her loving family by her side.

She was born in Utica on September 12, 1941, a daughter of the late John and Emily (Maciol) Dziok. She was a 1959 graduate of Whitesboro High School. She was married to Luciano Centra on July 24, 1975, in Sorrento, Italy, with whom she enjoyed 51 years of marriage.

Carol was employed for many years with General Electric, Kaman Sciences and Notre Dame Jr./Sr. High School. She was an avid traveler and regularly enjoyed visiting and adventuring with her daughter. Their annual trip to Las Vegas was something she looked forward to and brought her much joy and happiness.

Carol is survived by her loving husband Luciano and her beloved daughter and best friend Jennifer Centra of Boston, MA.; her sisters and brothers-in-law, Dorothy Dziok of Utica, Gloria and Philip Enea of Utica, and Marilyn and Charles Adams of Lake City, FL; her brothers and sister-in-law Joseph and Joan Dziok of New Hartford, and Robert Dziok of Greece, NY; her sisters-in-law and brother-in-law Carla (Centra) and Vittorio Campagna of Carpineto, Rome Italy, Anna (Centra) Sangiorgi of Rome, Italy, and Alessandra (Centra) Cappucci of Carpineto, Rome, Italy; and several loving nephews, nieces and cousins, especially Most Rev. Stephen J. Enea of Utica and her godson, Kenneth Enea of Van Nuys, CA, Rhonda Stampalia of Jacksonville, FL, and Jane Dunbar of North Utica.

Carol was predeceased by her sister Joan Dziok, her brother John Dziok, her sister-in-law Sandy Dziok and her brothers-in-law Giuseppe Sangiorgi and Sergio Cappucci.

The family would like to extend a very special thank you to Carol’s nurses at the Wynn Hospital IMCU especially Don, Sarah, Jessica and Rebekah; We will never forget your care and kindness. Thank you also to the Hospice and Palliative Care team of Oneida County. Finally, heartfelt gratitude to David Roefaro and Stephen Karboski for their compassionate, tender care given to Carol, and for their guidance and support in making this difficult time less stressful and burdensome.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend Carol’s Mass of Christian Burial on Friday, September 4, 2026, at 10:00 a.m., in St. Mary of Mt. Carmel/Blessed Sacrament Church. The family will greet visitors at the conclusion of Mass in church.

Private interment will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Whitesboro. There will be no public visitation.

A celebration of Carol’s life and Mercy Meal will be held immediately after the Funeral Mass at the residence of Gloria and Philip Enea, where family and friends will be received.
