Carol R. DePalma, age 79, of Utica, passed away on Monday May 4, 2026, at the Siegenthaler Center of Hospice Care Inc. with the love of her family in her heart.
She was born in Utica on August 13, 1946, a daughter of the late Dominick and Rose Amelio Scavo and was a 1963 graduate of TR Proctor High School. On August 13, 1966, she was married to Joseph M. DePalma, in St. Agnes Church, a loving and blessed union of 47 years, until his passing on October 30, 2013.
Carol was employed with the UFCW Local One Union. She was a volunteer at her parish St. Anthony/St. Agnes Church.
Carol was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who loved her family dearly. They will forever hold her memory in their hearts.
Surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law Deanna and Brett Alpaugh and Gina M. and Christopher Whalen; her son and daughter-in-law Joseph M. Jr. and Laura DePalma; her beloved grandchildren Timothy and Christina Whalen, Alexandra Whalen- Raman, Nicholas and Stefanie Whalen, Alyssa Alpaugh and Francesca DePalma; beloved great grandchildren Luke, Brayden and Payton Whalen; her brother and sister-in-law Dominick “Dick” and Rita Scavo and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her sister Caroline Scavo , Josephine and husband (Joseph) Clerrico.
Visitation will be held this Saturday May 9, 2026 from 11:00 am until 12:30 pm at The Scala, Roefaro & Karboski Funeral Home 1122 Culver Ave. Utica. Funeral prayer services will commence at the conclusion of visitation at 12:30 pm in the funeral home. Private interment will be in Calvary Cemetery.
The family extends a special Thank You to the nurses of the Siegenthaler Center at Hospice for their care and compassion given to Carol during her illness. In lieu of flowers please donate to Seigenthaler Center and the local churches.
