Charles “Chuck” E. Sands, age 86, passed away on Sunday, October 12, 2025, at the Wynn Hospital after a brief illness.
He was born on May 18, 1939, in Scottsbluff, NE, a son of the late Gordon and Phebe (Sheik) Sands. Chuck graduated from local schools and on February 26, 1966, married the love of his life, Charlotte Lay in Casper Wyoming. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army Reserves in the Army National Guard from 1956-1994, being discharged as rank of First Sergeant. Chuck was a proud Mason his entire life serving in many roles throughout the years.
Chuck (never Charlie) & Charlotte owned Genes Mensware, and every Christmas the family STILL receives a piece of the huge roll of signature wrapping paper from the store. He managed Ponderosa Steakhouse in Hudson, NY until he retired, although we knew he wouldn't stay retired for very long. Chuck then went to work for Stewart's Corporation, cleaning up stores that needed his help. He loved gardening, especially sunflowers. Sunflowers stood for his family he loves so very much. Chuck's beautiful flowers were known throughout the area. The Sands yard was always a sight to see. He also enjoyed wearing a good hat, restoring and collecting antique clocks. Chuck was a loyal friend, a bonus father and mentor to many. He will be missed by all that knew him.
He is survived by his loving wife, Charlotte; his two daughters, Shelley Sands, Casper, WY and Anjanette “Annie” (Chad McLaughlin) Sands, CO; his cherished grandchildren, Ebin McLaughlin, Michael Close, Sarah Close and Brianna Dupre and his great-grandson, Julian Paul Tocchini. Chuck was predeceased by his parents and his daughter, Charlotte Shanagher.
