Donald Dominick Derrico, passed away on Sunday June 7, 2026. He will always remain in the hearts of the family and friends who loved him so deeply.
Born in Utica, New York, on August 20, 1932, Donald was the beloved son of the late Stanley (Scotty) and Lucy Dishavo Derrico. A proud veteran of the United States Navy, he served his country with honor from 1951-1955, before returning home to build a life rooted in family, faith, and service. Donald was a graduate of T.R. Proctor High School and went on to dedicate 33 years of service to the United States Postal Service, where he worked as a letter carrier and was well known in the community.
On June 27, 1959, Donald married the love of his life, Ann Theresa Laino. Together they shared a devoted and loving marriage, surrounded by family, friends, and countless cherished memories. Donald was a lifetime parishioner of St. Anthony and St. Agnes Church and a proud member of the Knights of St. John #385, reflecting his deep faith and commitment to his community.
Above all else, Donald was a loving and devoted father, grandfather, and great‑grandfather. He is survived by his beloved wife, Ann; his three daughters and sons‑in‑law, Debra and Ronald Neverette, Lisa and Gary Eklund, and Donna and Walter Sands; seven cherished grandchildren; and one great‑grandson, who brought him immense joy. He is also survived by his sister Cynthia DeTraglia and the late Dr. John Detraglia; his brother‑in‑law, Nick Laino; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Phyllis Saraceno, and her husband, Cosmo Saraceno.
Donald now enters into eternal rest, where, through God’s mercy and the promise of the Resurrection, we trust he has been welcomed into the loving arms of our Lord. As Scripture reminds us, “Well done, good and faithful servant” (Matthew 25:21).
His Mass of Christian Burial will be held this Thursday, June 11th at 10:00 a.m. at St. Anthony and St. Agnes Church in Utica. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Mass. Military Honors will be conferred by the US Navy. The family will greet visitors at the conclusion of mass in church. Private interment for immediate family will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Scala, Roefaro and Karboski Funeral Home, 1122 Culver Avenue, Utica. In lieu of flowers, donations in Donald’s memory may be made to the Abraham House of Rome, New York. Envelopes will be available.
