Dr. A. Louis Shaheen

Dr. A. Louis Shaheen, age 98, of Utica, passed away on Thursday, March 28, 2013 with his loving family by his side.

He was born on August 3, 1914 in Utica, a son of the late Habib and Sadie Tamer Shaheen. Dr. Shaheen was a graduate of Syracuse University College of Medicine in 1940, performing his internship and surgical residency in New York City.

On July 3, 1943 he was joined in marriage to Ruth L. Dann in New York City, a loving and blessed union of 69 years, until her passing on January 21, 2013.

Dr. Shaheen opened his private practice in Utica in 1946, providing excellent care to many patients throughout the years until his retirement, at the age of 92.

He was a parishioner of St. Louis Gonzaga Church, St. John Evangelist Church, a member of the Oneida County Medical Society, Alpha Kappa Kappa Fraternity, Board Certified in General and Abdominal Surgery.

Although he enjoyed vegetable gardening, cooking, playing golf and bridge, his greatest joy was the love of his family.

Surviving are six loving daughters and four sons-in-law, Kathleen Shaheen Sinnott and Bob Sinnott, Mary Louise Shaheen, Ruth Ann and Fran Pugliese, Sara Shaheen, Paula Jean and David Farnsworth, Andrea and Albert Williams. one loving son and daughter-in-law, Paul D. and Rita Shaheen. fourteen cherished grandchildren and nine cherished great-grandchildren; two sisters, Agnes and Charles Lewis, Mary and Tom Maroun; one brother, Dr. George Shaheen; one brother-in-law, Anthony Ferris, several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by three sisters Jennie Shaheen, Catherine Shaheen and Helen Ferris; brother-in-law Joseph Shaheen and sister-in-law Angie Shaheen.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Divine Liturgy of the Faithful Departed on Monday at 10:00 a.m. in St. LouisGonzagaChurch, with the Rev. Chorbishop John Faris officiating. Private entombment will be in Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum.

The family will greet visitors at the conclusion of Mass at church.

In lieu of flowers, donations in his name may be made to the Abraham House or the Abraham L. and Ruth Shaheen Family Fund at The Community Foundation of Herkimer & Oneida Counties. Envelopes will be available.

The family would like to extend a special Thank You to all the loving and devoted caregivers.
