Emily (Conte) Nivaggi

October 17, 1929 — April 22, 2016

Mrs. Emily (Conte) Nivaggi, 86, of Whitesboro, passed away on Friday, April 22, 2016, at the St. Luke's Home with her loving family by her side.

She was born in Utica on October 17, 1929, the daughter of the late Carlo and Theresa Casatelli Conte. She was educated in local schools and was a 1947 graduate of T.R. Proctor High School. On May 5, 1951, in St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Church she married John Nivaggi, a blessed union of almost 65 years. Emily was employed as a credit specialist secretary for Retail Credit of Utica, retiring in the early 1970's. She was a member of the former St. Anne's Church in Whitesboro and was very involved in the women's club of the church. Emily enjoyed the early morning; breakfast table chats and laughter with daughter-in-law Darlene and cookie baking adventures with her lovely granddaughter Sara.

Surviving are her beloved husband, John; two sons and one daughter-in-law; Gary and Darlene Nivaggi, of Orlando and John Nivaggi of Floyd; and one precious granddaughter, Sara Nivaggi; her in-laws Vincent and Claudia Nivaggi, Lena Grasso, Joseph Ducato,Carolyn Conte and Delores Conte and many loving nieces and nephews from her and John's families. Emily says goodbye to many lifelong friends and neighbors including Cindy Majka and the recently deceased Gloria LoConte. She was predeceased by her two brothers Joseph and Carl Conte, and her in-laws Angie Ducato, Josephine and Thomas Graziano and Carmen Grasso.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend her Mass of Christian Burial on Thursday at 10:00 am at St. Anthony/St Agnes Church. Private entombment will be in Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum.

Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday from 4-7 pm at The Scala & Roefaro Funeral Home, Inc., 1122 Culver Ave., Utica.
