Erik W.
Hyde
August 24, 1974 – April 15, 2026
Erik W. Hyde, age 51, of Westmoreland, NY, passed away on Wednesday, April 15, 2026, in the comfort of his home after a courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by his loving family and his devoted dog, as he lovingly called Cooper-Do.
He was born in Colorado Springs, CO on August 24, 1974, a son of Walter and Susan Kogut Hyde. The family moved to Westmoreland when Erik was young where he attended and graduated from the Westmoreland Central School District. On June 20, 1998, he was married to MaryBeth Turczyn in Historic Old St. John’s Church, Downtown Utica, a loving and blessed union of 27 years.
Erik was employed in the automotive sales business for many years. He was the sales manager with the Carbone Auto Group at Carbone Dodge-Jeep-Ram and subsequently the Lithia Auto Group. Erik loved life and his family. He enjoyed the simple pleasures in life and was an avid sports enthusiast. He would watch any sport that was on TV at any given time. He especially enjoyed watching the NY Yankees and he also loved watching football and checking his fantasy football scores with his father-in-law and brother-in-law. Erik also enjoyed hunting and fishing, and he was the type that could fix anything. As he would say, “I have a wealth of useless knowledge.”
A loving and devoted family man, his greatest joy came from the love of his two children and their loved ones. He reveled in their lives and was so proud of them. He was their greatest cheerleader and confidant. They will forever hold his memory in their hearts.
Surviving are his beloved wife MaryBeth; his daughter and son-in-law Daniella and Brady SanFilippo, where Erik was awaiting the birth of his first grandchild, Sadie; his son Sean Hyde and his love Aria Fletcher; his parents Walter and Susan; two sisters and brothers-in-law Melissa and Dave Talma and Suzette and John Faldzinski; his father-in-law William “Bill” Turczyn, with whom Erik shared a special bond; his in-laws Vincent and Karen Turczyn and Bill and Brandi Turczyn; many loving nieces and nephews, dear friends, and his devoted canine companion, Cooper.
He was predeceased by his mother-in-law Patricia (Arcuri) Turczyn and sister-in-law Faith Turczyn.
Visitation will be held Sunday, April 19th, 2026, from 1-3 pm at The Scala, Roefaro & Karboski Funeral Home, 1122 Culver Ave., Utica. Prayer services will be held at the conclusion of visitation at 3:00 pm in the funeral home. Private burial will be held at the convenience of the family in the Westmoreland Cemetery.
A special thank you is extended to his sister-in-law Brandi Turczyn for the care and compassion she showed to Erik during his final hours. Additional thanks are extended to Rochelle Hull, and to Roger and Chrissy Doyle for their constant love and friendship given to Erik and MaryBeth.
A thank you is also extended to Dr. Sam Benjamin and Jenna Leubner, NP at Upstate Cancer Center for their care and compassion for Erik over the past 5 years.
