Evelyn Labombarda

November 27, 1922 — July 2, 2013

Mrs. Evelyn (Darman) Labombarda, age 90, passed away on Tuesday, July 2, 2013 in the comfort of her home, with her beloved family by her side.

She was born on November 27, 1922 in Utica, a daughter of the late Joseph and Delizia DeRosa Darman. Evelyn was a graduate of T.R.ProctorHigh School, and the Utica School of Commerce.

Evelyn loved gardening; her yard was filled with beautiful flowers throughout the changing seasons. Her favorite flowers were zinnias. She loved cutting them and filling vases to place all around the house in the summer. She loved the ocean and walking along the beach, especially Maine and Cape Cod and looked forward to her visits there. She would spend hours collecting rocks and seashells or just exploring the shore and watching the waves. She also loved to read and spent many hours engrossed in her books and magazines. She had a huge collection of books, but especially enjoyed biographies and cookbooks, spending hours cutting interesting recipes out of magazines and putting them in scrapbooks to try out later.

Above all, Evelyn lived for her children. From the beginning they were the center of her life. She loved being a mother and was happiest while raising her family. She loved every minute of taking care of her babies and watching them grow. She gave of herself as best she could and would have done anything for her children.

Surviving are two sons and one daughter-in-law, Nicholas Labombarda of Utica, and Michael and Judith Labombarda of Pittsford, NY; one daughter, Karen Labombarda of Schenectady, NY; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and particular, Debi Racioppa. Also surviving is one sister, Marion Zizzi. She was predeceased by two brothers, Francis Darman and Arthur Darman.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend her Mass of Christian Burial on Wednesday (today) at 10:30 a.m. in St. Anthony and St. Agnes Church. Private interment will be in St.AgnesCemetery.

The family will greet visitors at the conclusion of mass in church.

There are no public visiting hours.

The family extends a special thank you to Hospice Care Inc., especially Crystal, Jill, Christina, Ann, Melissa and Renee; the nurses in the Allen Calder Wing at St. Luke's Hospital, the St. Luke's Home, Dr. Jerry Sloan, and Dr. Surrinder Devgun at Rochester General Hospital, for their care and compassion.
