Francis Joseph Kelly, 80, left us on October 5, 2026, after a courageous 20+ year battle with blood disorder progressing to acute myeloid leukemia.
Known to many as Fran or Frank, he was born on October 22, 1945, to Edward and Antoinette (Scarafile) Kelly. He grew up on Prospect Street in Utica, New York, along with his siblings, Mary Rose (deceased), Eddie (deceased), Norma, Diane, and Bob.
Fran was married to Sue (Durr) Kelly for 58 wonderful years, and together they raised four children: Joe, Kim (Chris Manley), Brian, and Doug. He loved and cherished his two special grandsons, Tyler and Quinn. The family extends its deepest appreciation to Tommy Giruzzi, whom Fran loved like a son, for his extraordinary devotion, care, and lifelong friendship.
Following high school, Fran answered the call of duty and served four years in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam era. Outside of his work at Niagara Mohawk Power Company, Fran was happiest coaching. He devoted countless hours to Whitestown Little League (Fire Department), Whitestown Pop Warner, and Notre Dame High School modified football and baseball.
The family would like to give a special thank you to Agape Care Hospice and to Dr. Pamela Sinclair at Levine Cancer Center in Rock Hill, SC for their compassion and support throughout Fran’s journey.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Central New York Veterans Outreach Center of the Utica Center for Development.
