Mr. Geno R. Roefaro age 93, of Utica, passed away on Thursday July 19, 2018 after a brief stay at the Masonic Care Community, with the love and support of his family.


He was born in Utica on August 3, 1924 a son of the late Louis and Marie Antoinette S’Doia Roefaro and was a graduate of TR Proctor High School, where he played Varsity Basketball. He was very active in sports and played football for St. Anthony’s/ East Utica Vets., and was known for his outstandinding athletic abiliities. Geno proudly served our country during WW II in the US Army from 1943-1946. He toured in the European Theatre, while fighting in the “Battle of the Bulge”. His unit was commissioned by General Eisinhower to field an artillery rescue for troops that were surrounded by the Germans. He earned three Battle Stars and a Citation for his bravery during their successful mission. He was at one time married to Carolyn Romeo, until her passing many years ago. On September 17, 1966 he was united in marriage to Mary Palazzi in St. Anthony of Padua Church, a blessed union of 51 years. Geno was employed with the GAFB in the Civil Engineering Dept. as a Structure Superintendent, until his retirement.


Surviving are his beloved wife Mary; two beloved sons Gene and wife Heather Roefaro of FL. and Dennis Roefaro of Utica/FL.; his cherished grandchildren Nicholas and Jessica Roefaro, Paul Roefaro, and Geno, Francesca and Rocco Roefaro; two beloved great grandchildren Giuliana and Dominic Roefaro; two brothers and sisters-in-law Renato and Carol Roefaro and Frank and Jean Roefaro and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by one brother Mario and wife Elvera (Chickie) Roefaro and one sister Anna and husband Victor Diodato and sister-in-law Angela Roefaro.


Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Mass of Christian Burial on Monday at 10:30 am in St. Anthony/St/ Agnes Church, with Military Honors Conferred. Private interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visiting hours will be held on Sunday from 2-5 pm at The Scala & Roefaro Funeral Home Inc. 1122 Culver Ave. Please omit flowers. A special Thank You is extended to the Racquet Household at the Masonic Care Community and his special caregiver Sauda.
