Mr. George G. Guidera, age 72, of New Hartford, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday February 9, 2013 at his home.
He was born on October 6, 1940 in Utica, a son of the late George and Letha Massago Guidera and was educated in local schools. He served our country in the US Army in the Military Police Division. On October 31, 1970 he was married to Ann Theresa Cristalli in St. Mary of Mt.CarmelChurch, a blessed union of 42 years.
George was employed by Utica Drop Forge/Kelsey Hayes as the Union Shop Steward, until his retirement.
George's life revolved around his family. He was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather. His grandchildren will forever cherish the memory of their "Pappy" for which he was so affectionately known to them. In his earlier years, George was a coach for South Utica Little League and also CYO Youth Basketball, where he enjoyed many years teaching the area youth. He was a horse racing enthusiast as well as an avid Poker Player. He shared many of his days with his dear friends as a member of the James St. Coffee Shop "The Joint" and was one of the South St. Boys. He will be sadly missed, but never forgotten.
Surviving are his beloved wife Ann; four loving daughters and sons-in-law Nicole and Dean Nole of Utica, Dana Guidera and Justin Zalatan of Utica, Gina and Robert Cerminaro of Conn. and Kristin and Anthony Grieco of Whitesboro; one loving son and daughter-in-law Michael and Sharon Guidera of Utica; his cherished grandchildren Santino and Coco Nole, Andrew Guidera, Matteo Grieco, Giuliana and Isabella Cerminaro and he was awaiting the birth of his seventh grandchild; two brothers and sisters-in-law Richard and Marilyn Guidera and Thomas and Rena Guidera; two sisters and brothers-in-law Christine and Al Sike and Josie and Justin Latus; his brother-in-law and sister-in-law Gaetano (Guy) and Lucy Cristalli and several nieces, nephews, cousins and many dear fiends.
His funeral will be held on Wednesday morning at 9:30 am from The Scala & Roefaro Funeral Home, Inc. 1122 Culver Ave. and at 10:30 am in Mt. Carmel/Blessed Sacrament Church, with Military Honors conferred. Private entombment will be in Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum.
Visiting hours will be Tuesday from 5-8 pm at the funeral home.
