George E. Jweid

Mr. George E. Jweid age 79, of New Hartford, passed away on Sunday October 22, 2017 at the St. Luke's Home, surrounded by his beloved family.

He was born in Utica on October 25, 1937 a son of the late Niem and Sarah Kakaty Jweid and was a graduate of St. Francis deSales School. He was married to Karen Sents, a blessed union of many years.

George worked in the family business Jweid & Sons Market on South St. for many years, subsequently becoming co-owner of Chanatry's Market for several years until his retirement. He was a parishioner of St. Basil's Melkite Catholic Church.

George was a loving and devoted son, husband, father and brother whose life centered around his family. He will forever live in the hearts of his beloved family. In his younger years George was an avid Bowler, Golfer and fisherman, especially at Salmon River. He also loved his weekly card games with his family and friends and especially enjoyed his trips to LasVegas. He was also an avid Trap and Skeet Shooting enthusiest as well as a Duck Hunter with his dear friend Jim Collis. In his later years, attending his son George's sporting events was the hightlight of his life.

Surviving are his loving wife Karen, his beloved son George (whom George lived his life through); two sisters and his brother-in-law Janet and William (Bill) Chanatry, and Lorraine Kawam; his in-laws Dolores Jweid, Roberta and Ronald Bray, Michael and Sandra Sents and Richard and Brenda Sents and many dear nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, and his canine companion and shadow "Duke". He was predeceased by his sisters Bertha Nassif, Betty Kawam and husband Joe; brothers Louis and wife Ida Jweid, John Jweid and brother-in-law Pierre Kawam.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Mass of Christian Burial on Wednesday at 10:00 am in St. Basil's Melkite Catholic Church, with the Rev. Saba Shofany officiating. Private interment will be in Calvary Cemetery.

The family will receive all visitors at the conclusion of mass in church.

In lieu of flowers and food, donations in his name may be made to the Alzheimer's Assoc. Envelopes will be available. The family extends a special Thank You to the nurses and staff of Barton West of the St. Luke's Home for their care and compassion given to George during his illness.
