Utica

Jahquin Javier Hoston, of Utica, NY passed away unexpectedly on June 12, 2025; He was 27 years old.

He was born in Utica, NY at St. Luke's Hospital to John Paul Hoston-Watson and Donna Black on April 17th, 1998. Jahquin, also known as 'Quinny' by his close family, was a free-spirited individual who loved helping others and was always trying to make their lives better. He loved all genres of music and loved nature; they were his solace, and he was never caught without his headphones. He loved always to take pictures and record memories, and his personality always shines through. He truly had a character like no other; he loved to be fashionable and loved his jewelry (pretty sure there's a crystal somewhere). He believed in a higher power and that everyone was capable of great things in this lifetime; he was always trying to reach his full potential.

He graduated from Thomas. R. Proctor High School in 2017 and went on to attend Mohawk Valley Community College. He enjoyed working with children and helping those with disabilities. He loved animals, as he always had one around, and he loved traveling around the world, making him excited for the future. He had so much confidence and zest for life that he was unmatched but loved and admired by so many. He always wanted others to feel cared for, valued, or loved, and he never met a stranger. He was so selfless, always thinking of others and their emotions even when unsure of his. Quinny was so headstrong and aware of his identity; he was who he was and wasn't unsure about it. He was humorous without trying to be, intelligent, and one of the most motivating individuals you could meet. Jahquin was so charismatic, and his smile and laugh were contagious.

He leaves behind his parents John Paul Hoston-Watson, and Donna Black, and his chosen parents, Robert and Suzanne Shafer, whose he experienced an incredible life with, and 4 sisters; Olivia Brown, Alandrea Black, Jonissa Houston, and Blessins Brown. He also leaves behind 6 brothers, Terrell Black, Chase Hoston, Cisco Shafer, Robert Shafer Jr., Zerion Wynder, and Nicholas Shafer.

There are also cousins amongst the Watson family, whom he's had relationships and bonds with before his untimely passing that he loved and kept in contact with. He also leaves behind his best friend Katelyn Rycraft who stood by him through everything. Jahquin loved her unconditionally; he'd had some of his best days with her. He was finally appreciated for who he truly was by a friend. Incredibly goofy as a pair but what is life without humor? Jahquin did not have the opportunity to bless this world with any children, but he had godchildren. He was devoted to looking out for them like they were his own, he never met a child he would not look out for or love.

He joins his grandmother Juanita Taylor-Watson in death. She was an influential part of his life and helped raise him into the young man he was. He loved her so much that he made sure he looked after her and visited her often always and before her untimely passing in 2021. They are now reunited.

He was truly the Baddest in the World and graduated to the BADDEST in the Universe! Always the Baddest, Never the Saddest !
