Mrs. Johanna M. Carr age 85, of Utica, passed away on Monday November 9, 2015 at St. Elizabeth Medical Center, surrounded by those who loved her.

She was born in Berlin, Germany on August 15, 1930. Her parents died when she was a baby and Johanna was raised with the love and care of her grandparents Ludwig and Theresa Koessler Huber and was educated in Fuessen Germany. She came to the US as a young girl and at one time was married to John Romanus.

On May 24, 1985 she was married to Thomas N. Carr, Jr. a blessed and loving union of 12 years until his passing on July 15, 1997. Johanna was employed for over 30 years with the General Electric Co. in Utica, until her retirement in 1985.

Surviving are her extended family, Sally Pugliese, who was like a sister to Johanna and with whom she resided,; her Godson Jeffrey and wife Lorie Manning, whom she treated as her son; Anna Marie Clare of Utica; Joseph (Buddy) and Patricia Gigliotti of Utica; Michael Clare Jr. whom she considered her nephew; her stepchildren Thomas and Rebecca Carr of NC; Timothy and Jill Carr of Ohio; Theodore and Nancy Carr of NY; Pamela and Mark Carr of FL. and Patricia and Ralph Ellis of FL. She was predeceased by Lawrence and Carmella Gigliotti who considered Johanna as a daughter.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend her Mass of Christian Burial on Wednesday at 10:30 am in St. Anthony/St. Agnes church, Utica. Private interment will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Hamilton, NY

The family will receive visitors at the conclusion of mass in church.

The family would like to extend a special Thank you to Diane Labaro who assisted Sally in her daily caregiving of Johanna. Also to her dear friends Chuck Curri and Larry Pugliese for their constant concern and love of Johanna; and to the staff of the Pediatric Unit at St. Elizabeth Medical Center for their care and compassion. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Steven Swan Humane Society of Utica. Envelopes will be available.
