Mr. John P. Dickan age 94, of Frankfort, passed away on Friday March 29, 2024, at his home with the love and support of his family.
He was born in Utica, on January 3, 1930, a son of the late Najeeb and Freida Mulkey Dickan and was educated in local schools. John served our country in the US Marines from 1951-1953, stationed in North Carolina. While in the service he met the love of his life and on October 26, 1952, he was married to Elgie G. Clifton in North Carolina, a blessed union of 67 years, until her passing on March 10, 2020.
John was employed by the Office of General Services for NYS, serving as security for the State Office Building, retiring in 1992, after 20 years of service. John was an entrepreneur in every sense of the word. Hard work was no stranger to him as he held many vocational roles, during his lifetime. He was a kind and generous man with a quite demeanor. In his spare time he was an avid comic book collector and he loved to fish. His family will forever hold his memory in their hearts.
Surviving are his ten beloved children, James Dickan and Dora Tran, Michael and wife Teresa Dickan, Carol and husband Michael Czerkies, Cynthia Rancier, Darlene Dickan, Janice Dickan, Lorraine Guertin, Paula and husband William Knapp and Susan and husband Michael Morrissey, and Anthony Martino and wife Teri; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and his dear friends Robert Friedlander and Rene Oldick.
Visiting hours will be held on Saturday afternoon April 6th, from 2-4 pm at The Scala & Roefaro Funeral Home Inc. 1122 Culver Ave. His Celebration of Life service will commence at the conclusion of visitation at 4:00 pm in the funeral home, followed by Military Honors conferred by the US Marine Corps.
The family extends a special Thank You to John’s caregivers Jeniqua, Jenique, Karen and Janei from Steps of Grace Caregivers, for their care and love given to John during his illness.
