John J. Jacobs

Mr. John J. Jacobs age 97, of New Hartford, NY passed away peacefully on Sunday May 17, 2015 at St. Elizabeth Medical Center.

He was born on January 14, 1918 in Ansonia, CT., a son of the late Joseph and Alice Hyder Jacobs and was educated in local schools. On October 12, 1941 he was married to Helen Tebsherany in St. George Orthodox Church, a blessed union of 73 years.

John began his career driving tractor trailers with brothers Richard and Peter, then for Oneida Motor Freight Co. He later established John Jacobs Trucking Co. which he owned and operated for many years until his retirement at age 78. He was known to be a hard-working, talented and caring individual and was a devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather. He never left his wife's side especially during their later years.

Left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife Helen; four sons and daughters-in-law Lloyd and Christine Jacobs of N.J.; John Joseph and Victoria Jacobs of Rochester; Robert Jacobs of Franklin, NY. and Perry and Laura Jean Jacobs of Utica; his cherished grandchildren Lloyd Jacobs, Jr., Kelly and Vance Mattis, Randy Jacobs, Todd and Tina Jacobs, Aren Jacobs, Robert Jacobs, Matthew and Kat Jacobs, Emily Jacobs Piu, David and Dayanne Jacobs, Crystal Jacobs and Zachary Jacobs and many loving great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by three brothers Peter, Richard and Michael Jacobs and two sisters Sadie Lombardi and Dorothy Bruno.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral service on Saturday, May 23, 2015 at 9:00 a.m. in St. George Orthodox Church 350 Higby Rd. New Hartford, with Father Nikolai Meyers officiating.

Visiting hours will be Friday May 22, 2015 from 5-7 pm at The Scala & Roefaro Funeral Home, Inc. 1122 Culver Ave. Utica.

Dad will be greatly missed by his wife, sons, and the entire family as well as by so many others, that he touched with his love and gentle grace. He was a gifted, humble person who faced all challenges of life courageously. Rest in Peace.
