Joseph V., Sr. Leone

Mr. Joseph V. Leone, Sr. age 90, of New Hartford, passed away on Monday October 23, 2017 in the comfort of his home with his loving family by his side.

He was born in Utica on March 7, 1927 a son of the late Pasquale and Fortunata Rocco Leone and was educated in local schools. He proudly served our country during WW II in the US Army. On September 6, 1952 he was united in marriage to Flora Siringo in St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Church, a blessed union of 65 years.

Joe was a livestock dealer his entire life beginning with his co-ownership of the family business, P. Leone & Sons, subsequently Amco Pack and the Party Packing Co. He then became the buyer for the Utica Veal Co., until his retirement.

Joe was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and brother. His family was foremost in his life and relished every moment he spent with them. His work ethic was second to none, making sure he provided for his loved ones. A true patriarch of his family, he will be sadly missed, but never forgotten.

Surviving are his beloved wife Flora; two sons and daughters-in-law Pasqual A. "P.A." and Lisa Leone of Rome, Joseph V. Jr. and Lori Leone of Utica; two daughters and his son-in-law Rosann Stefanski of Utica and Lisa and Robert Gillette of Frankfort; his beloved grandchildren Dawn and Joe Rich, Matthew and Michael Stefanski, Stephen and Rachelle Gillette, Rebecca Gillette, Joseph Leone, Daniele Leone, Meghan, Brittany and Ashley Santiago; his beloved great-grandchildren Salvatore Rich and Alexander Gillette; two sisters and a brother-in-law Mary DiGristina and Angeline (Shirley) and Frank Cannistra; two brothers and a sister-in-law Anthony Leone and Russell and Laura Jean Leone; two sisters-in-law Margaret Siringo and Violet Leone and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, especially John and Landa Rozyla. He was predeceased by his sisters Carmella Caputo, Katherine Delia, Theresa Stivali, and Lena Bruzzese-Papa, his brothers Rock, Frank, Victor and Patsy Leone.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Mass of Christian Burial on Friday at 10:30 am in Our Lady of Lourdes Church. Private entombment will be in Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum.

Visitation will be held on Thursday from 4-7 pm at The Scala & Roefaro Funeral Home Inc. 1122 Culver Ave.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to Hospice Care Inc. Envelopes will be available. A special Thank You is extended to Bonnie Ferrone and her nursing staff for the care and compassion given to Joe over the last 2 years. Also to Richard Panetta and Ray Alessandrini of Inertia Therapy; to Hospice Care Inc. whose care and comfort allowed Joe to remain comfortable in his home these last days, also to Tom Turczyn of D & T Transport for his constant service and to Dr. Joseph Booth for his 30 years of care given to Joe, with such compassion and concern.
