Karen Gentile, age 76, of Utica, passed away on Sunday, September 20, 2026, at the Wynn Hospital with her loving son Michael by her side.
She was born in Utica on March 27, 1950. The daughter of the late Nicholas and Theresa M. Gentile she was a graduate of TR Proctor High School. Karen continued her education at Herkimer County Community College and would be part of the first graduating class.
Karen began her lifelong career in the travel business more than 50 years ago. For the past 45 years she was the proud owner of “Karen Travel”, a vocation she truly loved. Karen was not only a travel agent but became a friend to every customer. She reveled in her ability to make people’s travel dreams come true. Her greatest joy was when her son Michael joined the business. Together they embarked on leading many groups around the world showing them sights that most would never see. She was so proud to know that her son Michael will carry on “Karen Travel” and continue the legacy she has created.
While Karen’s passion would continue to be “Karen Travel”, she decided to venture into a second business owning the Acropolis Greek Restaurant for 32 years. During those years many customers would dine in the restaurant and hear stories of travel which would lead them to book an “Adventure” traveling with Karen Travel.
A loving and devoted mother, she is survived by her cherished son Michael Buas; many dear friends and customers, that had become family.
In keeping with Karen’s wishes, there will be no public services.
Funeral arrangements are by The Scala, Roefaro & Karboski Funeral Home 1122 Culver Ave. Utica.
