Leroy “Lee” Marsden, retired UPD, age 89, of Marcy, NY, passed away on Thursday June 12, 2025, at the Abraham House in Rome, NY after a brief illness with his family by his side.
He was born in Utica on April 14, 1936, a son of the late Leroy and Hilda Kurtelawcz Marsden and was a graduate of UFA High school. Lee served our country from 1954-1958 in the US Air Force, attaining the rank of Sergeant.
On May 23, 1981, he was married to Carol Stagliano in Utica, a blessed union of 24 years until her death May 5, 2006. Lee was an Avionics expert having worked for the General Electric Co. and Mohawk Airlines. Lee joined the Utica Police Dept. on September 16, 1964, and served in roles such as investigator, and dedicated 30 years of service until his retirement as a Sergeant on April 3, 1995.
He was an avid outdoorsman who loved fishing, 4 wheeling, and especially snowmobiling. However, his greatest love was his family. They will forever hold his memory in their hearts.
Surviving are three sons Mitchell, Randall and Scott Marsden; two daughters and a son-in-law, Sandy and Bob Ciancaglini and Cyndy Scruggs; one brother Bill (Irene) Kurtelawcz; his beloved grandchildren Skot (Luiza) Thayer, Randy Marsden, Tim Marsden and fiancé Cassie Fedor, Lindsey and John McElroy, Elly Marsden, Heather and Darcy Ward, Andrew Scruggs, Ashley and Elijah Neff, Bobby Ciancaglini and fiancé Hannah Resendiz, and Mia Ciancaglini and fiancé Carson Schulz; his brother-in-law and sister-in-law Frank and Carol Stagliano and many extended relatives and dear friends. He was predeceased by his daughter-in-law Jean Marsden.
Visitation will be held this Thursday June 19th from 11:15 am until 12:00 noon at the Upper Mausoleum Chapel in Calvary Cemetery. Funeral service prayers will commence at the conclusion of visitation at 12:00 noon in the Mausoleum Chapel with the Rev. James Cesta Officiating. Military Honors will be conferred by the US Air Force. Private interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Abraham House or the Maynard Volunteer Fire Dept. in memory of Lee. Envelopes will be available.
