Louis J. DiBernardo, age 77, of Utica, passed away on Monday, August 10, 2026, at the Siegenthaler Center for Hospice with those he loved by his side.
He was born in Utica on September 21, 1948, a son of the late Mario and Antonette “Toni” (Pappasergi) DiBernardo and was a 1966 graduate of TR Proctor High School. He served our country in the US Army, 717th Air Calvary, during the Vietnam War and was the Crew Chief for the Cobra Helicopter Division.
Lou was employed with the Utica City School District for many years until his retirement in 2011.
Surviving is his love of many years, Therese (Hobaica) Laffey; two sons, David DiBernardo of MA. and Daniel and (Koni Son) DiBernardo of NJ; two granddaughters Mina and Yuna DiBernardo; two sisters, Lucille (James) Costello and Mary Rose (Randy) Anderson; one brother, Mario (Cathy) DiBernardo; his extended family whom Lou cherished, Frances (Fran Hobaica) Desiato, twins Robert (Cynthia) Hobaica and Richard (Jennifer) Hobaica and several nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Mass of Christian Burial this Friday, August 14, 2026, at 10:00 AM in Mary, Mother of Our Savior Church, (Our Lady of Lourdes Campus) 2222 Genesse St. Utica, with Military Honors conferred. Private interment will be in Calvary Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of your choice in memory of Louis. Envelopes will be available at the Mass.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Scala, Roefaro & Karboski Funeral Home 1122 Culver Ave., Utica.
