Mr. Mario A. LaPolla, age 88, of Whitesboro, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday May 31, 2022, at St. Elizabeth Medical Center with the love and support of his family.
He was born on May 20, 1934, in Brooklyn, NY, a son of the late Saverio and Elizabeth Gualtieri LaPolla, and was educated in Brooklyn schools.
On February 6, 1955, he was united in marriage to the late Geraldine (Gerry) Angarola in Brooklyn, NY, a blessed union of 53 years until her passing on July 26, 2008. Mario proudly served our country in the US Army.
Upon moving to Utica, Mario began his career with Peoples Moving and Storage Co, He then became the manager of the Stanley Theatre for many years. He then held a position with the US Postal Service for many years until his retirement. He was a parishioner, usher and Eucharistic Minister at Mt. Carmel/Blessed Sacrament Church, a member of the Mt. Carmel Society, and the Holy Name Society.
Surviving are three sons and daughters-in-law, Mario E. and Diane (Borello) LaPolla, Thomas and Karen (Kupiec) LaPolla, and Mark and Anita (Geary) LaPolla, all of Utica; two daughters and sons-in-law, Debbie and Michael Grassi of Utica, and Lisa and Allen Eubanks of OK; his cherished grandchildren, Alicia LaPolla and husband Trevor Glode, Sarah LaPolla and Sean Ferrell, Heather and Richard Galinski, Shaun and Pamela LaPolla, Kaitlyn LaPolla and Lauren Marleau, Erika Grassi, Jaclyn and Christopher (Critter) Maldonado, Michael and Shawna Grassi, Anthony LaPolla and fiancée Christina Aiello, Olivia and Daniel Guarno, and Ebby Eubanks; cherished great-grandchildren, Ryan and Lucas Galinski, Lorenzo Guarno, Ellie and Mia Glode, Aiden Ferrell, Marciano and Mila Maldonado, Luca Grassi, Gavin and Cole LaPolla and he was awaiting the birth of his 12th great-grandchild Saverio Guarno; one sister and brother-in-law, Gloria and Michael Tofolo of AZ, two sisters-in-law Carol Angarola and Angela LaPolla. He also leaves several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was predeceased by one son, Scott Michael LaPolla and one brother Edmund LaPolla.
Visitation will be held on Friday 6/3/22 from 5-7 pm at The Scala & Roefaro Funeral Home, Inc. 1122 Culver Ave. His Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday at 9:30 am in Mt. Carmel/ Blessed Sacrament Church. Private interment will be in Calvary Cemetery.
