Mr. Matthew Zane age 72, of Utica, passed away on Friday May 7, 2021 at home with his loving family by his side, after a courageous battle with cancer.
He was born in Utica on October 1, 1948 a son of the late Pasquale and Grace Jones Zane and was a graduate of TR Proctor High School Class of 1966. A UnitedStates Army Veteran, he proudly served his country in Vietnam. He also served in the US Army Reserves at the Elihu Root Center on Burrstone Rd. for 20 years.
Matt was employed with the US Postal Service as a letter carrier for 27 years until his retirement. He was a union member of the National Assoc. of Letter Carriers, Branch John F. Kennedy # 375, Utica.
He was also an avid fisherman on Oneida Lake with his late brother-in-law Michael Mercoldie. Matt was always willing to play a game of chance and enjoyed the simple things in life.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 41 years Rosanne (Graziadei) Zane. He also leaves his beloved three children from a previous marriage, Shelly LoGalbo and husband Danny, of Frankfort and David and Steven Zane of Whitesboro; his adored grandchildren Abagail LoGalbo and Caitlynn LoGalbo and fiancée Sean Hotaling; two sisters Dolores Mercoldie of Lee Center and Patricia Zane of Marcy; his in-laws Anna Theresa Graziadei, Carmelita Graziadei, Michael and Marilyn Graziadei and George Graziadei. He was predeceased by his in-laws Carmella Grande, Robbie Graziadei, Carlo Graziadei and Philip N. Graziadei and Michael Mercoldie. He also leaves many dear nieces, nephews and friends.
Visitation will be held on Thursday from 5-7 pm at The Scala & Roefaro Funeral Home Inc. 1122 Culver Ave. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Mass of Christian Burial on Friday at 10:00 am in Our Lady of Lourdes Church, with full Military Honors conferred. All COVID protocols will be required both at the funeral home and at church.
In lieu of flowers donations in Matt’s name may be made to the Vietnam Veterans of America, Chapter # 944, PO Box 4444 Utica, NY 13503, an organization that Matt so proudly was a lifetime member of. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
