Peter Bonanza, Jr., a beloved Tahoe icon; devoted son, brother, uncle, great-uncle, cousin, and friend to many, passed away on June 5, 2026, at the age of 70.
Born in Utica, New York, and educated at Niagara University, Peter carried his East Coast charm, humor, and loyalty throughout his life. With a deep love of the outdoors and a passion for skiing, he eventually settled in Incline Village, Nevada, where he became a cherished member of the Lake Tahoe community, touching generations of residents and visitors.
Peter was known for his larger-than-life personality, infectious laugh, quick wit, and genuine love for people. Many knew him through his years at the Crystal Bay Steak & Lobster House, where he built lifelong friendships and earned a reputation for exceptional hospitality. Friends remember his booming greetings, mischievous grin, and remarkable ability to make people laugh and feel connected wherever he went. His presence extended throughout Tahoe—from restaurants and community gatherings to ski slopes, golf courses, and neighborhood gathering places.
Though Tahoe became home, Peter never forgot his roots. He cherished visits back to New York and treasured time with family and lifelong friends. A devoted sports fan, he followed his teams with unwavering enthusiasm and loved the competition and camaraderie sports brought to his life.
The outpouring of love following Peter’s passing reflects the impact he had on others. Stories shared by friends, coworkers, neighbors, and family portray a man who was larger than life yet humble, entertaining yet deeply caring, and whose presence brightened every room.
Peter was preceded in death by his father, Peter A. Bonanza, Sr.
He is survived by his loving mother, Carrie Bonanza; his brother, Nicholas Bonanza; and his sisters and brothers-in-law, Michele and Rob Flo, and Kristine and Keith Horan.
He also leaves behind his beloved nieces and nephews, Matthew and his wife, Stacie Flo; Chelsea and her husband, Mathew Dermady; and Evan and Colin Horan. Peter was a proud great-uncle to Nora and Harper Flo and Luca Dermady, who brought him endless joy.
Peter was also blessed with many cousins throughout the West Coast who made it feel like a home away from home and whose love and companionship enriched his life. He treasured those family bonds and the memories they shared.
While his absence leaves a tremendous void, Peter’s greatest legacy is that he was a friend to everyone he met, a stranger to no one, and a source of laughter, kindness, and warmth to all who knew him.
Though he will be deeply missed, his spirit will live on in the place he loved most, the place he called home-Lake Tahoe.
A celebration of Peter’s life will be announced at a later date.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Scala, Roefaro & Karboski Funeral Home 1122 Culver Ave, Utica, NY.
