Mrs. Philomena Faga Talarico, passed away peacefully, on Saturday August 30 , 2014 at the home of her daughter and son-in-law.
She was born on October 20, 1917 in Utica, the daughter of the late Antonio and Caroline (Sacco) Faga. On October 19,1940, she married Charles Joseph Talarico, who passed away on December 15, 1997.
She leaves two daughters and sons-in-law, Peter and Vinnie Rocci, Fred and Carol Polito; cherished grandchildren, Peter and Christine Rocci, Dr. Charles and Brenda Rocci, Gina Rocci, Frederic Polito and James Recknall, Christopher and Debra Polito. Her great-grandchildren include Alexander, Charles, Nicholas, Samuel, Victoria, Christopher, and Jordyn. She maintained a close relationship with her cousins, nieces and nephews, as well as with her Godchildren. She was predeceased by her sister and brother-in-law Concetta (Massa) and Ernest Marasco and two brothers and sisters-in-law Louis and Louise Faga and Dominic (Teddy) and Josephine Faga, and her in-laws Samuel and Margaret Talarico.
Phil was a graduate of St. Mary of Mt Carmel School, UticaCatholicAcademy and the Utica School of Commerce. She began her career as a stenographer with the City of Utica in the Department of Public Safety. She soon moved into the City Clerk's Office advancing to the position of Deputy City Clerk. In 1968, she became the first woman to be appointed to the position of City Clerk. She remained in service to her beloved city of Utica for 52 years. The endearing relationships she formed with fellow workers throughout those years were held close to her heart. She will always be remembered for her dedication to family, friends, Church, and community.
The family is deeply grateful to Marie for her loyal support, to Tricia, Jolene, Nancy, and Shelly for their enduring help, and to our extended family and friends for all of their kindness.
Her funeral will be held on Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. from The Scala & Roefaro Funeral Home Inc., 1122 Culver Ave. and at 11:00 a.m. from St. Mary of Mt.Carmel / Blessed Sacrament Church. Private interment will be in St.AgnesCemetery.
Visiting hours will be Tuesday from 4 to 8 pm at the funeral home.
