Richard F. Grande Sr., 83, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 11, 2026, with his beloved children by his side, after a long illness.
Born on March 27, 1943, Rich was surrounded in his final moments by his daughter Joann and her husband Lyle Shorey, his son Richard Grande Jr. and his wife Debra Harris, and his son Dominick and his wife Michelle Grande. Their presence brought him comfort and reflected the deep bonds he cherished throughout his life.
Rich was a fun-loving soul whose quick wit touched everyone he met and was renowned for his endless supply of jokes—always delivered with perfect timing to elicit laughter from friends, family, and strangers alike. He proudly served in the United States Navy and participated in the blockade at Guantanamo Bay during the Cuban Missile Crisis aboard the USS John Willis.
A successful businessman and entrepreneur, Rich poured his heart into owning and operating the beloved Penn Mountain Inn restaurant, a place that became his pride and joy. Through hard work, hospitality, and genuine care for his patrons, he created a welcoming haven where countless memories were made over good food and great company.
Richard was predeceased by his parents, Dominick and Antoinette Grande, and by his first love, Jacqueline Dichiera Grande. He now rests reunited with her and those who went before him.
Rich will be remembered fondly as a loving father, a devoted friend, and a man who lived life with humor, kindness, and an open heart. His spirit and the laughter he shared will continue to brighten the lives of all who knew him.
Visitation will be held on Thursday April 23rd, from 5-7 pm at The Scala, Roefaro & Karboski Funeral Home 1122 Culver Ave. Utica, NY. Funeral prayer services will be held at the conclusion of visitation at 7:00 pm with the Rev. James Cesta Officiating. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery.
