Salvatore P. Mercurio

February 17, 1925 — September 29, 2013

Mr. Salvatore "Sal" P. Mercurio, age 88, of New Hartford, entered into eternal peace on Sunday September 29, 2013.

He was born on February 17, 1925 in Utica, a son of the late Salvatore and Rosina Marfone Mercurio. Sal was a graduate of T.R.ProctorHigh School, and also of IndianaTechCollege, where he earned his Engineering Degree.

Sal proudly served his country in the U.S. Marine Corp. during WWII in the South Pacific. On May 5, 1951, he was joined in marriage to Josephine M. Galime in Blessed Sacrament Church, a blessed union of 59 years.

Sal was an Engineer employed by General Electric Co. for 36 years until his retirement. He was a member of the Elks Club, the Knights of Columbus, Foxfire Country Club in Naples, FL, and Valley View Country Club. Sal was a devoted volunteer for Habitat for Humanity in Collier County, FL and in Utica.

Surviving are his two sons and daughter-in-law, Steven and Mary L. Mercurio of New Hartford, and Kenneth J. Mercurio of Rochester, NY; two grandchildren, Emily Mercurio and Daniel Mercurio; one brother Lawrence Mercurio of Clinton, NY; brother-in-law, Eugene Torchia of New Hartford; three sisters-in-law and a brother-in-law Madlyn Guidotte of Clinton, Edith and Richard Tofani of GA and Jane Mercurio of Skaneateles; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Josephine; brother Joseph; two sisters-in-law and two brothers-in-law Theresa Torchia, Mary and Ralph Costello and Frank Guidotte.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass in celebration of his life on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. in St. JohnEvangelistChurch, New Hartford. Private interment will be in CalvaryCemetery.

There will be no public calling hours at Sal's request.

The family will greet visitors at the conclusion of mass in church. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc., 4277 Middle Settlement Rd., New Hartford, N.Y. 13413
