Sandra M. McGurk

Sandra M. McGurk, age 64, of Utica, passed away on Saturday September 12, 2026, at the Wynn Hospital, with those she loved dearly, by her side.

She was born in Utica, on March 6, 1962, daughter of the late Maurice and Mary Eleanor Hartzell McGurk. Sandra was a graduate of Sauquoit Schools; Herkimer County Community College and she earned her BS degree from Plattsburgh College.

Sandra, “Dee”, was filled with love, joy, kindness, and compassion. In her teens and twenties, she was an incredible athlete whom many admired. She had a way of including people in things to make them feel special. Sandra enjoyed nature, traveling, and being with the people she loved. Her smile and laugh made the world a brighter place. She will be deeply missed.

Sandra was employed with the Utica Alloy Co. for 27 years, as lab manager of the chemistry division. She then became employed with MVCC as an integral part of the chemistry dept. and science labs, until her retirement.

Surviving is her loving life partner Kathleen Curran; three sisters Karen Sellitti, Lori McGurk and Mariann Lemieux; one brother Michael McGurk; her loving nieces and nephews Jessica Ayari, Stephanie Selmi, Jake Ekes, Breanne Ekes and Kurt Ekes and several great nieces and great nephews; her godson Scott Coon and many dear friends whom she considered family.

Visitation will be held this Friday September 18, 2026, from 5-7 pm at The Scala, Roefaro & Karboski Funeral Home 1122 Culver Ave., Utica.

Her Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, September 19, 2026, at 10:00 am in St. Anthony/St. Agnes Church. Private interment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Clayville.
