Theodore "Ted" Averson

July 4, 1926 — May 19, 2013

Mr. Theodore "Ted" Averson, age 86, of Whitesboro, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 19, 2013 at home with his loving family by his side.

Ted was very patriotic, especially since he was born on Independence Day, July 4, 1926, a son of the late Peter and Jennie Borjachiello Averson.

During World War II, Ted enlisted in the United States Navy proudly serving in the Pacific Theatre of operations. Ted was in Naval Aviation, flying with Torpedo Squadron #93 assigned to aircraft carriers including the USS Boxer CV21.

On January 31, 1948 Ted married Marie Paonessa in St. Anthony of PaduaChurch in Utica, celebrating a blessed union of 65 years of marriage.

Ted was employed at the Utica Observer-Dispatch for 33 years retiring in 1983. He was a past President of Local 62 as well as a Representative of the International Typographical Union. Ted later became a real estate broker in NY and FL. He was a senior marketing manager with Atlantic-Gulf communities of Miami, FL retiring in 1990.

Ted was a member of American Legion Post #1376 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #9591. He was an avid golfer, who organized many leagues and outings for his fellow golfers.

Surviving are his loving wife Marie; three beloved daughters and sons-in-law, Cynthia and Joseph Zainchowski, of Elbridge, NY, Cheryl and Michael Risucci, of Clermont, FL, and Lori and Charles Herthum, of New York Mills, NY; one son Peter Averson and fiancAC. Pamela Dice, of Longmont, CO; seven grandchildren, Travis Zainchowski, Anthony Averson, Sarah Kellner, Katie Averson, Dana Risucci West, and Kevin and Ashley Herthum; two great-grandchildren, Dylan and Charlotte Kellner, who will forever cherish the memory of their Poppy; two sisters, Adeline Polizzi, of CA, and Mary Caiola, of Frankfort, NY; one brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Celia Averson, of Cooperstown, NY; and also many nieces and nephews, especially his nephew Bob Barrett who he had a special rapport with. He was predeceased by four sisters, Elizabeth Barrett, Yolanda Amitrano, Margaret Padula, and Doris Dangler; and two brothers, Louis and Thomas Averson.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Mass of Christian Burial on Friday at 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady of the RosaryChurch, 1736 Burrstone Rd. New Hartford, NY.

The family will greet visitors at the conclusion of mass in church.

Interment will follow in CalvaryCemetery with full Military Honors.
