Violet M. Proite

Violet M. Proite, 89, of Ontario St., passed away Sunday, March 10, 2013 at the Masonic Care Community.

She was born December 12, 1923 in Abergavenny, Wales, a daughter of William and Elizabeth A�A�Carter and received her education in local schools. On December 16, 1944, Violet married U.S. Army Cpl. Vincent Proite in Abergavenny, Wales, and came to the United States in 1945. They settled in the Utica area where they raised their family. He predeceased her on October 8, 2012.Violet was a nurses aide at the Lutheran Home in Clinton until her retirement. She had previously worked at General Electric in Utica and New Hartford. Violet enjoyed her family and her friends in East Utica, and mostly her Thursday night bowling group.

Violet was a communicant of St. Anthony & St. Agnes Church in Utica. She was a member of the English Club with the American Legion in Utica.

Surviving are her children, Gail Proite, Wendy and David Delia, all of Utica; Deborah and Alfred Candido, Jr. of Forestport; Michael Proite and Mary LaPuma of Pasadena, MD; and David Proite of Mohawk; her beloved grandchildren, Elizabeth and Steven Mancuso of Utica; Heather Delia of Deerfield; Nicholas Delia of Utica; Brandi Candido of Schuyler and Joseph Priote of Charlotte, NC; brother-in-law, Frank Morreale of New Hartford; great-grandchildren, Vincent and Samantha Mancuso, Nicholas Fiorello, and Alexis Candido; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her siblings, Patricia, Betty, Mercia, Elaine, Evelynn and Ronald.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Anthony & St. Agnes Church at 1pm Tuesday, March 12, 2013.

Interment will be private in the ForestHillCemetery, Utica.

Friends may call at the Scala & Roefaro Funeral Home, 1122 Culver Ave., Utica on Tuesday from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm.

Violet's family wants to thank the nurses and staff of the Masonic Care Community, especially Naomi, for the wonderful care they gave her.
