William "Bill" J.
Turczyn Jr.
Feb 1, 1946 — Aug 23, 2026
Westmoreland
William “Bill” J. Turczyn Jr., 80, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, August 23, 2026, at Wynn Hospital, leaving behind a legacy defined by family, vibrant energy, and a warmth that left an indelible mark on everyone he met.
Born on February 1, 1946, Bill was the son of the late William J. and Josephine (Kuzniar) Turczyn. He graduated from Utica Free Academy and earned his bachelor’s degree in business management from SUNY IT. From 1964 to 1968, Bill proudly served his country in the United States Air Force. On April 28, 1973, he married the love of his life, Patricia Arcuri. Together, they shared 50 devoted years of marriage, building a life centered on family until her passing on November 14, 2023.
In the years following her loss, Bill found immense comfort, joy, and renewal in a wonderful circle of new friends who helped him navigate his grief and became deeply treasured companions.
Bill was an avid outdoorsman at heart who truly loved to hunt, trap, and fish. He brought an untamable competitive streak to every outing, where every fishing trip kicked off with his classic wager: "a buck on the first fish and a buck on the biggest."
He played to win in every aspect of life and genuinely hated to lose, whether throwing darts, shooting hoops, or locking into a Saturday night game of Pitch around the table with his three kids and son-in-law. Those nights watching his beloved New York Yankees and sharing great meals were among his favorite traditions.
As a longtime fantasy football manager, he was a premier smack talker who bridged generations effortlessly. Even friends thirty years younger considered him simply "one of the guys," laughing along with his sharp wit and playfully unfiltered banter.
Above all, Bill was a fiercely devoted family man. As a grandfather, he was a constant, faithful fixture in the stands and audience, religiously attending every sporting event, dance recital, and milestone celebration. He was always up for a drive and never turned down an opportunity to stop over for a free meal, a hot cup of Java, and great conversation. Bill wrapped up every request to his daughter and daughters-in-law with an affectionate "thanks, hun," and after every meal, family gathering, or party, he could always be counted on to cycle through his signature praise: "That was excellent," "very good, very good," or "I really enjoyed myself."
Bill’s memory will be forever cherished by his children, Vincent (Karen) Turczyn, Marybeth Hyde, and William D. (Brandi) Turczyn
He is also survived by his beloved grandchildren, Daniella (Brady) SanFilippo, Sean Hyde (Aria Fletcher), Angeline, Davina, Chloe, and William; his cherished great-granddaughter, Sadie Anne; numerous nieces and nephews; and his daily walk partner, his grandpup Cooper.
Bill was reunited in peace with his beloved wife, Patricia; his daughter, Faith Turczyn; his brother, Thomas (Linda) Turczyn; and his son-in-law, Erik Hyde, whom he loved and embraced as a true son, sharing countless games, meals, and thousands of hours debating fantasy football together.
Calling hours will be Sunday, August 30, 2026, from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM at the Scala, Roefaro & Karboski Funeral Home, 1122 Culver Ave., Utica. A funeral service will follow immediately after the viewing at 3:00 PM. A private interment will take place at Westmoreland Cemetery, where Bill will be laid to rest beside his wife, Patricia.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Bill’s honor to Rover’s Do-Over (envelopes will be available at the funeral home).
As Bill would say, “See you later, I gotta Rock and Roll”
