Obituary

Newport - Angelina Montalto Bertolini, 90, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 18, 2022 at St. Elizabeth Medical Center.

She was born on May 12, 1932 in Utica the daughter of the late Gregorio and Ciccina “Frances” (Correnti) Montalto, and was educated in local schools, Class of 1950, T. R. Proctor High School. On August 21, 1954 she married the love of her life, Alfred T. Bertolini in St. Anthony of Padua Church, a blessed union of 39 years, until his passing in 1994. 

Angelina began her employment as the head cashier at the Chicago Market Grocers. She and her husband, then became the owner and operator’s of Angie’s Diner in Syracuse, NY from 1963-1972. Angelina completed her career with Partner’s Trust Bank (Bank of America) until her retirement.  Angelina was a communicant of St. John the Baptist Church, Newport, NY, where she was a 33 year member of Catholic Daughters Court Reardon 841, and Eucharistic Minister & Lector for 41 years. She served as the Chaplain for the Kuyahoora Senior Citizens for 21 years. She lived a Christian life and ministered to many in the community delivering the Eucharist and leading them in daily recitation of the Holy Rosary.

In Angelina’s last wishes she expressed that she “enjoyed living in this community and having the love of those who called her ‘Friend’.”

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law Gregory and Karen Bertolini of Newport, NY; her beloved grandchildren, Aurora (Brian) Riopelle, Boise, ID and Ryan Bertolini, Redondo Beach, CA; her cherished great-grandchildren, Adeline and Lydia Riopelle.

Visitation will be held on Friday, July 8, 2022 from 11 am to 12 Noon at St. Anthony & St. Agnes Church, Utica. Funeral services will commence immediately following visitation at 12:00 Noon in church where her Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Private interment will be in St. Agnes Cemetery, Utica.

The family extends their gratitude to the Newport Fire Department EMTs and the MOVAK Ambulance team for the care and dignity they provided to Angelina in her last moments with us.

In memory of Angelina, donations may be made in her name to GRUCMOAA (Greater Rome-Utica Chapter Military Officers Association of America)  P.O. Box 36 Rome, NY 13442-0036 or to the Kuyahoora Valley Food Pantry, Inc, P.O. Box 303, Newport, NY, 13416. Envelopes will be available at the church.
