Anthony Louis Barretta, Sr., 79, of Old River Rd., passed away at his home on August 24, 2021 with his family by his side.

He was born on June 3, 1942 in Utica, NY, a son of the late Louis and Marie Blanca Barretta and graduated from Proctor.  On May 14, 1966, Anthony was united in marriage to Linda Colangelo at St. John the Baptist Church in Rome, NY, and they shared a loving union of 55 years. Anthony worked at Special Metals, for over 30 years, until he retired. He was a long-time member and Assistant Quarter Master for the Magnificent Yankees drum corps and played the cymbals for the Syracuse Brigadiers. Anthony enjoyed bowling with family and friends and was a member of numerous leagues in the area over the years. He also enjoyed playing golf at Domenico’s Golf Course in Whitesboro. Anthony loved camping, boating and spending time with his family. He loved being a “snowbird” and counted down the days until their next trip and was Linda’s hero on that long drive to Myrtle Beach, SC. Anthony also loved spending time with his furry companions Maya & Bogie.

Anthony is survived by his beloved wife, Linda; his children, Anthony “Nino” (Cassie) Barretta, New Hartford; Brian (Nicole) Barretta, Rome; a brother, Carmen (Liz) Barretta, Marcy; sisters-in-law, Marie (Ron) Hughes, Rome; Phyllis (Michael) Schwartz, NC; brother-in-law, William Jr. (Pamela) Colangelo, ME; his cherished grandchildren, Nicole, Savannah, Toni Ann, and Rocco Marc Barretta; also survived by many relatives and friends. He was predeceased by a son, Marc Barretta in 2003.

Family and friends are invited to call on Monday, August 30th, from 11 am until 1:00 pm at The Scala & Roefaro Funeral Home Inc. 1122 Culver Ave. Utica. Funeral services will be held at the conclusion of visitation at 1:00 pm Monday in the funeral home.

Interment in St. John’s Cemetery, Rome will be private at the convenience of his family.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Anthony’s memory may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care, 4277 Middle Settlement Rd., New Hartford, NY 13413. His family wishes to extend a special thank you to the Hospice staff who were so helpful and compassionate.
