Daisy (Vair) Spina

Mrs. Daisy (Vair) Spina age 86, passed away on Friday July 23, 2021 at the Masonic Care Community with her loving family by her side.

She was born in Knoxboro, N.Y. on April 3, 1935 a daughter of the late John and Elizabeth Schumaker Vair and attended Knoxboro Schools. On September 3, 1955 she was married to Anthony R. (Bob) Spina in Mt. Carmel Church, a blessed union of 50 years until his passing on December 23, 2005.

Daisy was employed at Oneida National Bank and Fleet Bank until her retirement. After retirement Bob and Daisy spent many winters at their retirement home in Florida, and enjoyed summers at their home on Oneida Lake. Daisy loved playing bingo and enjoyed going to Turning Stone Casino. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother whose life centered around her family. They will forever hold her memory in their hearts.

Surviving are her beloved daughter and son-in-law Sue and Nick Annese; two beloved sons and daughters-in-law Bob and Rosemary Spina and Mark and Joann Spina; her cherished granddaughters Alyssa, Ashley, Brittany and Brianna Spina; one brother and sister-in-law Jessie (Roy) and Kay Vair of Omaha; two sisters-in-law Barbara and Marsha Vair and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sisters Mary and Alice Jaquay, Josephine Hotaling, Fannie Pryputniewicz, Eva Ford, Ella Mae and Julia Vair; her brothers Frank, John, Robert, Charles and Thomas Vair.

The family would like to express the compassionate care given to her at the Masonic Home, the staff of the Troy household especially Natasha, Dr Olteanu, her Nurse Mary Beth and Jill, the Speech Therapist. She loved playing bingo with her special friend Joann and was known by everyone as Daisy the candy lady.

Visitation will be held on Monday from 5-6 pm at The Scala & Roefaro Funeral Home Inc. 1122 Culver Ave. Utica. Prayer services will commence at the conclusion of visitation at 6:00 pm in the funeral home with the Rev. Thomas Servatius officiating.
