David P. Johnson

October 17, 1970 ~ May 30, 2021 (age 50)

Mr. David P. Johnson, age 50, of Whitesboro, NY passed away unexpectedly on Sunday May 30, 2021.

He was born in Utica on October 17, 1970, a son of Donald W. and Elaine Marrotta Johnson and graduated from TR. Proctor High School and MVCC.

On August 11, 2001 he was married to the former Kelly Feeley in St. Joseph/St. Patricks Church, and would have celebrated a blessed union of 20 years in August.

David was employed with the Northern Safety Company for 22 years. He began his employment as an intern, then was hired into the Purchasing department, later spending the majority of his career as a Merchandising Manager.  He was passionate about his work, he was a “company man”, and loved to talk about his safety products and share them with family and friends. He was teased at home by the kids; “Dad – Safety First!”  When he wasn’t working he spent the remainder of his time with his family.  Dave so enjoyed attending all of his children’s sporting events, where he would be there to always cheer them and their teammates on with only positivity.  But he would also be the first one to say sports are fun, but school is most important. And his kids took that to heart and rewarded him with excellent report cards.  When we would go to their parent/teacher conferences Dave would always be speaking, asking questions and mom could barely get a word in edgewise! He would do anything to support his children’s education. He was the best at helping with math homework or art projects.  He instilled in them the importance of working hard, being respectful, and being loyal friends.   Dave encouraged open lines of communication and the kids could talk to him about anything. His fondest memories of childhood were summers spent at his grandparents camp at White Lake and any time we ventured up there we would drive by the old camp and he would share stories that we all knew by heart.  He loved to joke and tease and one of his biggest accomplishments was “dabbing” in the picture of all of us on Splash Mountain at Disney World, a picture that we will forever cherish.  Dave took great care of us, whether it was grocery shopping, giving the kids (and their friends) rides any time of the day or night, bringing home Star Bakery on the weekends, there was nothing he would not do for his family.  He told us he loved us every single day.  We will miss him beyond words but we will carry on and remember the things that were important to him and honor him every day of our lives.

He is survived by his loving wife Kelly; three cherished and adored children David C. Johnson, Luke D. Johnson and Sydney E. Johnson; his beloved parents Elaine and Don Johnson; his sister, who was really like a second mother, Rene’ Johnson and Bernard Wilson; two brothers and sisters-in-law Donald A. and Teresa Johnson of Webster, NY and Joseph and Jeannine Johnson; his in-laws Richard Feeley and wife Marcie Weisberg, Karen and Tom Johns, Colleen Feeley and husband Daniel Pozefsky, Kathleen Feeley, and David Rose and Judy Gyr; his dear nieces and nephews Jason and Ashley Alteri, Lindsay Johnson, Natalie and Kyle LaVallee, Joseph and Michael Johnson, Miranda Feeley, Donny and Electa Johns, Matthew and Hayley Johns, Jakob and Noah Pozefsky and Mitchell Rose; and several great nieces, great nephews, cousins and dear friends, along with his canine companion, Abby.   He was predeceased by his in-laws Donald and Elizabeth Feeley and a very special uncle Joseph Devico.  He is now reunited with his dear friend Rocky Longo.

Visiting hours will be held on Friday from 4-7 pm at The Scala & Roefaro Funeral Home Inc. 1122 Culver Ave. His Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday at 10:30 am in St. Anthony/St. Agnes Church, Utica. Private interment will be in St. Agnes Cemetery. Please omit flowers.
