Gail Heitz Obituary

Whitesboro-Gail Morton Heitz, age 84, joined her beloved husband Leslie on Monday, October 9, 2023 in the comfort and dignity of her own home.

She was born on January 12, 1939 a daughter of the late Irving G. and Ruth (Baker) Morton. Gail was a graduate of Utica Free Academy. On May 5, 1959 she married the love of her life, Leslie S. Heitz in Dryer Memorial Church, a blessed union of 52 wonderful years until his passing on August 4, 2011. Gail worked for the Telephone company for a brief stint, and as a bank associate, but her greatest achievement was raising her beloved children. A long-time member of the Maynard United Methodist Church, she loved Sunday services and the family at church.

Gail was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend. Her true passion was spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She could be found at her grandchildren’s games as well as supporting her son, Steven in his coaching career. Gail was known by many at the sporting events, especially all the coaching “officials” making sure to keep them on their toes.

Gail is survived by her children, Steve (Jackie) Heitz, Whitesboro, Dan (Cynthia) Heitz, FL and Shelley Praul, VA; her loving grandchildren, Brendan (Nicole), Brienna, Trevor, Ryan, Alex, Samantha, and Allison; brother, Donald (Shirley) Morton; sister-in-law, Elfie Morton as well as many nieces, nephews and her loving church friends that were more like family to her. She was predeceased by her brother, Robert Morton.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, December 27, 2023 at 12 Noon at the Maynard United Methodist Church 9626 Maynard Drive, Marcy, NY. In true Gail fashion, all are welcomed to attend and sing and celebrate her life well lived.

In lieu of flowers, remembrances in Gail’s name may be made to the Maynard United Methodist Church. Envelopes will be available at the funeral service.

The Heitz family would like to thank the nurses and staff of Hospice & Palliative Care Inc. as well as the staff of Daughter for Hire for the care and compassion shown Gail.
