John Alfred Polchinski

Utica

Mr. John Alfred Polchinski, age 76, of Utica, passed away on Sunday September 11, 2022, at home after a brief illness, with the love of his family in his heart.

He was born in the Bronx, NY on August 13, 1946, a son of the late John A. and Germaine Fondue Polchinski and attended Holy Rosary Parish School. He served our country in the US Navy during the Vietnam War, serving on the USS Enterprise.

Upon his return from the armed forces, John became a NY City Police Officer and served in the 30th Pct., until his retirement. Upon retirement from the NY City PD, he relocated to the Utica area where he made his home and many everlasting friendships. His favorite pastime was bowling, where he was a staple at either the Pin-O-Rama or Sunset Bowling Center, where he made his second home. John had several 300 games to his credit. He also was an avid New York Yankee fan and he would still travel to NYC to see his Bronx Bombers. A loving and devoted father and grandfather, he will be sadly missed but never forgotten.

Surviving are his daughter and son-in-law Jeanine and Jeffrey Fogler of Johnson, NY; one son and daughter-in-law John A. and Lina Polchinski of Goshen, NY; one brother William and wife Carol Polchinski of Monroe, NY; 5 beloved grandchildren Jake, Ryan and Clayton Fogler, Johnny Polchinski and Dante Mazzerolle; he will also be especially missed by his dear friend Theresa Taylor and the Robinson Family of Utica, with who he spent a great deal of his life with, and several nieces, nephews and friends. He was predeceased by his brother Theodore Polchinski and his sister Germain Reitman.

Visitation will be held on Thursday 9/15/22 from 4-6 pm at The Scala & Roefaro Funeral Home Inc. 1122 Culver Ave. Utica. Funeral service prayers will be held at the conclusion of visitation at 6:00 pm in the funeral home, with Military Honors conferred by the US Navy. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Derek Jeter’s Turn 2 Foundation (turn2foundation.org) in memory of John.
