Mr. Joseph Catera age 79, of Utica passed away after a brief illness on Monday March 22, 2021 at St. Luke’s Hospital with his loving family by his side.

He was born in Utica on July 30, 1941 a son of the late Joseph and Cosmina (Marco) Catera and graduated from TR Proctor High School. He also attended Utica College and was an active member of the Alpha Phi Delta fraternity. Joe graduated from the State University of New York, College of Technology with a degree in Business and Public Management. He enjoyed his retirement much like his adult life with love and devotion to his family. Embodied by his own character Joe promoted hard work and determination to successfully meet and exceed life’s milestones. Joe was notorious for never missing important moments in his kids or grandkids lives, he was always present to support and share in those special moments. Joe was so proud of his children and even more proud of his grandchildren. Joe was committed to sharing his wealth of knowledge and wisdom, to ensure his family had the best that life had to offer.

Joe was a great guy and will be missed by many.  He was the definition of a true old-fashioned gentleman who had his priorities clearly in order beginning with family first. He provided true admiration and respect from many and was always there for everyone including family, neighbors, colleagues, and friends.

Surviving are his beloved wife Marilyn; two daughters and a son-in-law Lisa and Jim Raymer of Utica and Alice Chaplick of Maine; one son and daughter-in-law Brian and Jennifer Catera of Ohio; his beloved grandchildren Jimmy and Jessica Raymer, Nick and Katie Raymer, Joshua Raymer, Daniel, Olivia and Aidan Chaplick and Sophia, Luca and Luciana Catera; he was also awaiting the birth of his first great-granddaughter Nora Josephine Raymer; one sister and brother-in-law Pauline and Robert Grande of Utica; two sisters-in-law Shirley Catera and Nita Scotellaro, and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends especially his dear friend Russ Delia.
