Kathleen "Kay" E. (McCarthy) Leaf

Mrs. Kathleen “Kay” E. (McCarthy) Leaf, age 87, formerly of Utica, passed away on Wednesday, June 2, 2021, in Syracuse with her beloved family by her side.

She was born on October 15, 1933, in Flushing, NY, a daughter of the late Thomas and Margaret Cooper McCarthy, moved to Utica as a young girl and was educated locally.

On February 9, 1952, she was joined in marriage to Donald E. Leaf at St. Agnes Church, Utica, a blessed union of 47 years, until his passing May 31, 1999.

Kay was employed by the U.S. Government as an Administrative Assistant at the GSAOIG Office of Audits in Fort Worth, TX, until her retirement. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and sister. Her family will forever hold her memory in their hearts.

Surviving are two sons: Richard (Mary) Leaf, and Timothy (Anne Marie) Leaf; three daughters: Kathi (William) O’Brien, Karen Leaf, and Sharon Avila; one sister, Shannon McCarthy Primarolo; her grandchildren: Laura, Adriel, Dara, Stephanie, Tristan, Megan, Samantha, Taylore, Billy, Ashley, and Aidan,  and several cherished great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Don, son Kevin Leaf, daughter Regan Currier; her parents, brother: Thomas McCarthy; and two sisters:  Patricia McCarthy and Irene Conley.

Visiting hours will be held on Sunday from 2-5 p.m. at The Scala & Roefaro Funeral Home, Inc. 1122 Culver Ave. Funeral prayers will be at the conclusion of visitation at 5:00 pm in the funeral home. Private interment will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Per Kay’s wishes - if sending flowers, please send daisies only.
