Myra Hurlbut Schimmelbusch Ortiz Miller left the loving arms of her family for Paradise on Thursday April 16, 2020.

Myra was born on Apr 29, 1933 during the era of the Great Depression in Rome, New York, youngest of six children born to the union of John and Luella Hurlbut.  Myra was the bright and artistic baby of the family.  She was the last surviving member of her immediate family including brothers Kenneth, Wyllys, and Leland Hurlbut and sisters Eletha Christman and Ruth Felardo.

Myra was an ambitious, hardworking woman.  She was employed for many years at various companies including General Electric, Bendix, and Rome Cable; however her favorite job of all was that of mother, grandmother and homemaker.

Myra was a treasure hunter who never met a garage sale she didn’t like.  She was an accomplished vocalist, guitar player, and mastered the art of yodeling.

Myra’s favorite songs included the hymns of her youth including “Amazing Grace”, “In the Garden”, and “How Great Thou Art”.  Her all time favorite, however, was “You Are My Sunshine” which she sang religiously and lovingly with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Her greatest pleasure was the time she spent with her family.  She especially treasured her time with her”babies”.  Of all the possibilities, the names “Mom”, “Gammy”, “Grandma” and “Mima” describe her best.

As a young beauty she married Carl Schimmelbusch , and was blessed with two children; Susie (Daniel) Coyle IV of Tennessee and David (Lil) Schimmelbusch of Alabama and from this blessed union came 8 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren Daniel (Connie) Coyle V, Kathy (Greg) McMurtry, Aaron Coyle and Megan Coyle, Ruth Davis, Christina Schimmelbusch , Sean Schimmelbusch and Robert (Brittany Schimmelbusch Great grandchildren Daniel Coyle VI, Benjamin Coyle and Tyler, Marley and Maddie McMurtry, Brittnie (Frank) Capra, Jaden and Lily Schimmelbusch

She subsequently fell in love with and married Luis Ortiz and was blessed with 2 more children; Jack Ortiz (Andrea) and Connie (Richard) Ortiz-Schreck and from this blessed union came 7 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren; Licia (Timothy) Moore, Amanda (Michael) Ortiz-Reale, Justin Ortiz Richardson, Lena and Gabby Deveans, Savanna Ortiz and Tiffany (Craig Sestir) Stefanski Great grandchildren; Samantha and James Gleason, Gabby and Olivia Moore, Logan Reale, Isabella Leonis and Gavin Stefanski. Later in life Myra married Fredrick Miller with whom she enjoyed a happy, loving marriage of 25 years.

Myra loved and cherished many other children of her heart including Jennifer Doty Reed, Lauren Thayer, and Amber Lee

There were many others she loved including her niece Charmaine Grunenwald her husband Jim their daughter Myranda (her namesake),Billy DiRoberto, the Hage family especially Hedy and Gabe, Leeann Santa Maria and her daughters Santina and Sammi, her niece Carol Isbister, her husband Justin and family, her nieces Charlene  Longo, Sandy Howell, Darlene Russell and Brenda Christman.

Myra was predeceased by her beloved son in law Richard Schreck, her best friend Verlie Stevens, Sadie and John Stevens and unforgettable friends and neighbors Sam and Alice Pugh.

Myra was cared for professionally and lovingly by the staff at the Siegenthaler Center, especially Megan, Natalie, Ashley and Chaplin Wally Plock, to whom her family is forever grateful.
