Richard Joseph Tofani, Sr, age 93, a proud WWII Veteran, one of the remaining “Greatest Generation”, passed away on Saturday, February 12, 2022, in Kennesaw, Ga.
He was born in Utica NY, one of 16 children, attended local schools, and then married Edith Galime, a union of 71 years, lasting until her passing on December 8, 2021.
Dad learned the trade of bricklayer as an apprentice to his father-in-law. He was very proud of his talent and would beam when driving around Utica and neighboring towns pointing out the numerous buildings he helped to construct or refurbish, most notably the height defying (for Utica) steeple of Grace Church on Genesee St.
He and mom moved south in the early 80's where he continued to lay brick in the hot sun, but finally decided to retire and truly enjoy the good life Florida had to offer. Dad and mom eventually moved to Georgia to be close to their son and his family and were so happy to be able to enjoy his grandchildren and great grandchildren. They all brought a smile to his face.
Dad leaves behind his son Richard (Tiffanie) Tofani and family, and daughter Donna (Lenny) Milano and family, one sister Eleanor Borello of Utica, and many nieces and nephews.
Deep gratitude is extended to his son for his unfailing love, care, and devotion to dad, especially in this most trying time. No one could have shown more compassion. Dad was a God loving humble man with a huge smile, and a great love of food. He will be deeply missed, but never forgotten.
Funeral services will be private.
Rest in Peace, Dad.
